Astro
Content-focused web framework that outputs static HTML by default and selectively hydrates interactive components using Islands Architecture.
What it is
Astro is an open-source web framework for content-driven websites, published under the MIT license on its Astro GitHub repository. Unlike single-page application frameworks that ship heavy JavaScript bundles to the browser, Astro compiles templates into static HTML by default, as the Astro homepage outlines. You can write components in Astro syntax or use components from React, Preact, Svelte, Vue, and SolidJS, as the Astro islands documentation explains.
When it fits
Astro suits fast, content-driven sites such as marketing sites, documentation sites, and editorial blogs. Its Islands Architecture lets developers add client-side interactivity only where it is needed, as the Astro islands documentation describes. An interactive search bar or shopping cart can hydrate with a client directive, while the rest of the page stays static HTML.
What to watch
Astro requires Node.js v22.23.4 or higher, as the Astro install guide describes. Each island runs in isolation, but the Astro islands documentation notes that client islands can still share state and communicate with each other.
